Tuesday 18th June 2013 - I was put in a group with Dominic and we discussed amongst ourselves what we would like to do for the project, considering all the positive and negative variable factors. We then narrowed it down to our four most feasible ideas. We decided that our prominent target audience and type of event would be an educational trip for college students, possibly including some leisurable activities for enjoyment. We chose to do this because we felt it would allow us to create an event that would be focused, relevent and enjoyable to the particular type of students as it would be focussed around there particular course of study directly. We felt it would also be a perfect route to go down to create a feasable and affordable event as it would allow us to apply for college funding and we could take advantage of the college transport such as mini-buses and drivers that the college have, making sure we plan well ahead in order to make the options feasible and do-able.
The four ideas we narrowed it down to for our Travel and Tourism project where:
-A trip to the Thackeray Museum in Leeds which BTEC Health and Social students are interested in going on and would be feasible as similar trips have been run before.
-A trip to the Imperial War Museum for A Level History Students as its relevant to there studies surrounding WW1/WW2. Probably to the one in Manchester as its one of the closest to the college (making it lest costly for students and more feasible) and is fully open for the foreseeable future, unlike other IWM like the one in London are partly closed.
-A trip to the Manchester United Football Ground Old Trafford, Musuem and Stadium Tour for Students studying the Wyke Level 1 foundation courses, similar trips have also worked well in the past and for this trip we would have suffitant amount of teachers to run the trip and would be able to use the college transport such as the mini buses.
-A Theatre Trip - to a theatre such as Shakespeare's Globe Theatre or the West Yorkshire Play house in Leeds. This would be relevant to a number of students from various subjects such as Drama and Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, English Literature, English Language and possibly History and Dance. For this type of trip its important to discus with course teachers in order to decide upon a trip/piece of theatre that is relevant to these subjects areas of study.
-A trip to London for A Level Travel and Tourism Students to see the sights around London especially various famous museums, the London Eye, Big Ben/houses of parliament, Tour around the City, shopping, perhaps see a show and look at the main tourist areas of London such as the West End to get a physical picture of the travel and tourism industry in the UK's main tourist destination, London. However this trip would be rather costly, hard to organise, would probably involve an overnight stay (accommodation needed) and students may not be able to afford the trip which could make it unfeasable.
